The Commuters
Published May 25th, 2006 in Design, EventsAuthor Cheryl Klein will read from her newly published novel The Commuters, 7:30 this evening at Skylight Books (1818 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz) in Los Angeles. I completed the above cover design for the book (shown here in full wraparound, front cover illustration by Cheryl) in February of this year and have not yet seen the printed copy, so it will be exciting to see it tonight! Cheryl is quite the wordsmith and very dedicated to her craft. Just as her first novel The Commuters was in the process of being published, she finished up another one and I believe she may now be working on a third! Visit her blog Bread and Bread for well turned musings on the mundane.

The reading was a success! Cheryl sold lots of books and the cover looked great. Though just a shade darker, all the hues were spot on, and all the text was clear and ledgible. Will Dalrymple did a great job setting the type for the interior of the book, as well. Do people still say “setting type” when everything’s done on the computer? I don’t know. At any rate, it was very elegant and easy on the eyes. Nice to see these all clean and neat and fresh off the presses. Now to see what they look like dog-eared…
Thanks for coming! (And for designing me such a kick-ass cover!) I’m crossing my fingers that many copies will be dog-earred.
Great design. Very freindly. Makes me want to read the book. is it available everywhere?
Robo! Thanks for commenting! I appreciate the kind words. The book was just recently published, so it’s not everywhere… yet. But you can get it at sunbeltbooks.com here or for a little cheaper at amazon.com here. Also, if you’re anywhere near skylight books, they may still have some copies for sale. I think they have a special bookcase for those who have read there.
Thanks for the interest!
…Also, check with your favorite book store. They might have it. I’m actually not really aware of how wide the distribution is as of yet, but those places I mention above are a few that I know of.
